1. Attempt at making Paella: we had Ben and Tina (remember she went to Vermont with me) over for the signature Spain dish. There was room for improvement but it did look beautiful. During this dinner we made plans for an Alaska ski trip. Tina turns 40 on March 28 and we will be celebrating atop some peak in AK.
2. Made a skitreepolestar: a neighborhood hit. I have saved old skis and used them for yard decor and once as a trellis.....why not save a pine and make a skitreepolestar?
Pretty with snow..... design of the star still in the works
Complete with polestar
3. Learned to make shortbread: why not, I have a Scandinavian blood line. Yum, easy with the hand mixer but I think I would warrant a standing mixer if I made a double batch.
4. Learned to crochet..... started with wanting to make Sophie a Santa hat, then made myself a holiday beanie. Now I am in production of washcloths and more beanies. Watch out for washcloths to show up on your doorstep as a belated holiday gifts...... soon I will be ready to take orders.
I have mastered the single and double crochet, now I am ready to attempt more difficult patterns. I used to love to find these at craft fairs....now I can make my own!
5. Suffering thru an injury: Not a running injury, I have a wicked case of tennis elbow. Remember I was painting our home over the time of April thru October? Well my last (certainly not the final) but my last job before the Spain trip I started to feel elbow pain. Then I lugged heavy luggage thru Spain and Paris. When I got home, and rested my traveling arm, it never went away and got worse. I saw my friend Scott who is a Sports rehab doc @ the orthopedic specialty hospital TOSH, and he confirmed the diagnosis and gave me a steroid injection.....INSTANT relief. But then..... there was this killer powder day at Alta..... the Collins lift was down and so to get to the good stuff we had to cycle around the backside which included 2 lifts plus the rope tow uphill. Well the rope tow probably wasn't a good thing for my elbow. In my defense, I was skiing with Dr. Scott Johnsons wife, Stacey, so for some reason it makes it legit..... oh and Stacey had a hard time unloading the dishwasher that night after an exercise class and then the rope tow caper.
6. Tested my fat powder skis: scored a pair of K2 "Misbehaved" at the Alta AFD night at the Sports Den. They are fun and they have cool graphics..... even Stacey said that her next pair of skis purchased will be based on cool graphics (Stacey is a ripping skier and she can handle anything, the skis must be able to handle her). Santa brought Sophie a new pair of fat powder skis too and..... well..... look at this:
Sophie on High Rustler @ Alta
6. Scrapbooking: after 19.5 years living in Utah, the scrapbook capital, I have finally "scrapbooked". I have lots of pre-digital era photo albums of little Sophie, but not in the classification of scrapbook. My sister Andrea has been copying old family photos and I simply purchased the acid free stuff, placed little sticker tabs on the photos, stuck them to the paper and plan to label the photos with names and dates. No fluff, just the facts.
