1. Walk to work: I started this in early November (after a conversation with a very earthy person who "didn't drive a car for 11 years") just as a trial and I really like it so it is not really "new" for this year but kinda. My work is ~3 miles from home, uphill to work. I leave ~5:15 to be to work by 6am. The only danger I have encountered was a potential collision with a deer, I was on the sidewalk by Research park and ~6 deer were startled by the Foothill traffic, they were running fast. The walk home is a nice release after a days work and I try to catch up on phone calls....cause I really don't like talking on the phone. The tough part of the trip home is once I enter my neighborhood, I have to suffer thru the aromas of dinner prep and for some reason my bladder seems to be full ~5 blocks from home....every time. Oh, and before our trip to Spain/Paris I was listening to my French tapes and now I listen to podcasts..... Fresh Air, This American Life, Car Talk are my favorites.
2. Keep my desk organized: Now this is a annual attempt that typically fails but I will try again. I ended up spending all of New Years Eve on this task.....hey, I was in the mood. This should extend into "keep my life organized" which I dutifully set out to conquer on January 1st with race applications, campsite reservations, etc. This probably also includes on time Birthday wishes, frequent blogs.....gads, this is looking serious.
My part of the office: my Grandfathers chair, Sputniks perch, my feet photos above the desk, my Wasatch 100 application on the glass board ready to mail, shelves on the left all organized with a "Grand Slam" section, French word a day calendar, family photo calendar, and above the doorway is the trophy section..... my Wasatch 100 finisher plaques WITH hopes for 6 more already measured and marked!
3. Earn a Standing mixer: I really want one of those standing mixers, but I don't feel that I bake enough to warrant it...... hmmm, maybe I don't bake because my upper body is too weak to wrestle with the hand mixer and then again I typically end up flinging the batter on the kitchen walls. So, if I make something that would require the standing mixer at least 4 times a month, I will write a special note to Santa.
4. And the big one...... the one to which this blog was created...... the one to which would bring joy to myself, my family and pets, my friends, my coworkers, my corunners, my pacers, the guys at the running store who sell me goo and shoes and stuff, and anyone else who has had to suffer thru my quest (and whining) Complete the Grand Slam.
